Description

That's it: the last page I did for this comic. I've stopped working on it since 2006 .

Unfortunately, it stops more or less at the peak of the tension, with Adigar coming ahead at full speed while the ceremony prepares to reach its climax. Speaking of which, the lines of Laruto and Fado in this page are introducing the melody they're about to perform, with Daphnes leading them with the Wind Waker.
It's the main theme of tWW. Probably my favourite original music of the game and the most meaningful: the moment I heard the sages playing its separate halves was a memorable one. Hearing the title theme in the game as part of the actual plot suddenly gave it a deeper meaning, making it a bridge between distant generations and worlds: the new and the old sages, the Great Sea and the Hyrule of old.
With the lines of the Sages I related the tunes they'll perform to the meaning of the whole ceremony dedicated to the Hero, expanding the latter at the same time. Laruto refers to her element and her part of the melody, the Earth (God's Lyric), as does Fado with the Wind (God's Aria). The combined presence of these elements makes life possibile throughout Hyrule, a force that carries its seeds and the cradle that shelters and grows them. The union of their two tunes gives birth to a third, major one, an hymn to all of the Gods and to the renewal of life. So the ceremony pays homage to a greater cycle of life and death, both to the end of a dark time by the Hero and to the renewal of life that is granted every year to the land. Probably the most universal of all subjects, one that echoes our own world's celebrations of spring, fertility and prosperity.

About Adigar, the dark knight in the upper part of the page... when Spirit Tracks' artworks were released, I noticed a certain resemblance between this old character of mine and Byrne. Similar colours, haircut, build. And even Byrne's apparently mechanical arm vaguely resembles the armor-clad left arm of Adigar. It wasn't the first time I'd seen little coincidences between character design ideas I had for this comic and the ones that appeared in following Zelda games, but this one was surely the most surprising.
Here's a link to a couple of character sketches for him.
