In wait - Realistic Daphnes Nohansen

Description

Years ago I've done various illustrations for Legend of Zelda fanfictions of some friends, and mainly for the ones of ~laughingpineapple, who is a good writer (in the future I'm going to post many collaborations between the two of us in my DA gallery).
This is the first I did: she wrote a short introspective tale about one of my favourite characters of the series, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, portraying very well some of his most fascinating aspects. So I could't resist and tried to make a visual piece of it...
It's one of the many realistic redesigns from The Wind Waker I did in that period... today I would do it a little differently but I don't dislike it completely.

Here's the original short story by ~laughingpineapple, in a rushed translation.

In wait

Under the water, he waited. He watched the fishes and the currents and the sea's shades change with the seasons, which turned into years, then ages.
Under the water, he waited. Like an ancient statue covered in seaweeds, he kept watch (kept a wake) over his kingdom, crushed by revenge and justice and the ineffable threads of divine will.
Under the water, he waited. He pried into the sleep and the exile of his shadow, buried by the centuries as he was, yearning for life under a different curse. He felt watched as well. It only stood to reason. What was bound to happen would take them both.
Under the water, he waited. Anger and guilt had chiselled his figure along with the tidal currents and that digging, scouring, trimming had made him into a noble piece of wreckage, held together by sheer force of will.
He waited.

On a fine autumn day, the Great Sea jolted: eight fragments buried in its deepest waters came back to life, aligning themselves towards a small clump of sand and rocks in its southernmost waters. They had lit up to the call of a kindred spirit - and once again fallen into a slumber, as quickly as they had resonated.
The event did not pass unnoticed.

On that same evening, many a man was startled as the derelict boat which usually lay moored at the ruined dock opened its painted eyes and sailed slowly to the end of the harbour. They blamed it on the wine, the weariness, the tide. His last quest had begun.

The Hero was reborn. The end awaited.
