The War of the Kings and the flood of Hyrule by Skull-the-Kid The War of the Kings and the flood of Hyrule by Skull-the-Kid
My entry for the History of Hyrule calendar contest and a tribute for the ten years of The Wind Waker.

I chose my favourite part of the Legend of Zelda mythos and probably the most tragic of all: the very end of Hyrule.
The vain struggles for survival of the kingdom against Ganondorf, the Goddesses act of the flooding and the exodus that lead to the civilizations of the Great Sea.
The best way to describe this image could be quoting Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule himself:

Once, long ago, this land of Hyrule was turned into a world of shadows by Ganon who sought to obtain the power of the Gods for his evil ends. My power alone could not stop the fiend, and our only choice was to leave the fate of the kingdom in the hands of the Gods...

Very beautiful, but looking at it, all I can see is that King Daphnes is like "Bitch slap!"

Great illustrative style. I like the limited coloring, and the thick outlines, and the movement of the characters.

sorry but, the adult timeline kinda sucked! Wind Walker was good but the other games on that timeline (Spirt tracks and Phantom hourglass) wheren't that good, I tried to beat Phantom Hourglass and after the 3rd or 4th time of returning to the ocean temple I gave up on it.

Ehr, sorry for what, precisely? This fanart isn't related to those games or to the entire "adult timeline" but only The Wind Waker, so... what? =P
I partially agreed with you: I pretty much disliked it too, but only art and story-wise. As sequels of The Wind Waker the DS games had a very poor scenario. Despite some good ideas they were terribly disappointing to me on that regard.
But I absolutely loved their gameplay -despite some big design flaws: I'm referring especially to the overworld exploration- and that was more than enough for me to enthusiastically play through them until completion.

Hi! How did you make this? It's the best I've ever seen. I want to get into digital art but I don't know where to begin. If you don't mind, could you tell me what program you used, and what tools or peripherals I would need to buy to make something with strokes like this?

The lines were made with traditional media: I used ink. As for the rest, Photoshop.

You know, in the very end.

I think Ganondorf was sorry for what he did over the ages. "I coveted that wind, I supppose... "

Funny how a line like that from the iconic villain of the Legend of Zelda series could make me feel sympathy for him. In fact, because of that line, I really feel that what Daphnes did was actually wrong. Ganondorf actually wanted to have Hyrule become rediscovered, and Daphnes drowned it so hed never get he chance at it back. Now, we know what Ganon did in Ocarina of Time, but you know, would he have really done that again the second time around? Suddenly, Im not so sure anymore.

I mean, what kind of future did Daphnes damn those two kids to? What about the Master Sword? What about the castle? What about everything that the old kingdom, and ultimately the Old World of Hyrule stood for? What DID Daphnes leave them? An endless ocean. The end of the gods. Look at Links face in the final scene, he clearly has no idea what a desert is, or a field. A castle? He had no idea people could even build like that. All alien concepts to that kid. What would have been a better future? A continued stuggle with Ganon once Hyrule lay exposed to the winds of the Triforce? Or was the future Daphnes gave the right one? Hell, maybe Ganondorf wouldnt have been such a bad king. The kid could have just stabbed him if he was causing trouble, Triforce or not. Thats what he did in Link to the Past.

Who really won?

I don't think he was sorry, or he wouldn't try to do it again. =P
The simpathy you felt was normal since he was humanized a bit. He was a more interesting character, he may had a (very) vague reason for his selfishness, but in the end he essentially remained a pure villain, ultimately and inherently evil.
Ganondorf wanted Hyrule for himself only, while Daphnes only wanted to protect his people; and that's what drives their action through the game. I doubt that Ganondorf could ever be a good king 'cause he doesn't seem to care about people (except for the Gerudo, maybe), and it's clear not only from OoT but also by what he did when he returned to the old Hyrule of The Wind Waker and what he does in the Great Sea during the actual quest.

It's not the first time I hear an opinion such as yours and while I don't agreed it made me remember the release of the game and the feedback exchange I had with other fans at the time. :)
